HMAS Cerberus Open Day – RC Lasers on show

8 Skippers from the Patterson Lakes Model Yacht Club did a display sail at the Cerberus Open Day.

Many Thanks to Ned Whitely for organising the sailing.  The winds were a bit flukey not to mention the helicopter down drafts!  There was quite a bit of interest on the day, so hopefully more skippers in the future.

Thanks to the following Skippers for attending:

Ned Whitely

Scott & Jayne Fleming

Terry Rowe

Robin Talbot

Barry Johnson

Cameron Davies

Kevin De Groot

& Niki De Groot – the photographer.

A most enjoyable day was had by all – hopefully we can repeat the experience.

But more to the point a great display of RC Laser Sailing.

Regards Kevin De Groot

Victorian Radio Control Laser Championships 2013 Report

The 2013 RC Laser Victorian Championship was held at the National Water Sports Centre in Patterson Lakes on the weekend of April 27th.

Nine Skippers battled the conditions in very strange winds to say the least. The weather was fine and cloudy, with the rain holding off for eventful day off sailing.

The Skipper to beat after winning the first 5 races was Scott Fleming. Demonstrating why he is the current champion, Scott showed excellent speed, control and timing in picking the wind shifts. Second and third was a contest between Terry Rowe and Jurgen Luther.

Preparations for the 2013 Radio Control Laser Australian Championships are well under way.

The 2013 Radio Control Laser Australian Championships is on the weekend of the 5th and 6th of October at the Patawalonga Lake in North Glenelg, South Australia. There will be a practice session during the afternoon of Friday the 4th.

The RC Laser Championships will be hosted this year by the Adelaide Radio Control Yacht Racing Club, the hosts of the 2010 National Championships. The club is just a short distance from the Adelaide Airport with the end of the main runway close by. This creates some ‘interesting’ effects on the wind when planes come into land over the lake.

For more information check out the Club’s website at  http://www.thepat.saradioyachting.org.au/

The link ‘Patawalonga Lake’ on the menu bar has information on the club’s location, satellite pictures and typical course layouts.  For those with an interest in statistics, there is a link to typical weather data. Information regarding local accommodation can be found by taking the ‘Where to Stay’ link. Here, there is an extensive list of accommodation for different budgets with locations and distances from the venue.

Competitors should also read the club’s ‘Code of Conduct’, which can be found on the menu bar. The club does not have a pontoon to launch from so you will need to get your feet wet.

It is anticipated that the Notice of Race will be posted in early July
