RC Laser Sailing in Brisbane

There are a number of RC Lasers in Brisbane. At this time most are sailing on their own or in mixed fleets. At least one boat is sailing regularly with the Brisbane Radio Yacht Club at Springfield Lakes. This club meets on Thursdays (from late morning until around 4pm). The location is the north side of the main lake at the Springfield Town Centre.

2011 RC Laser Australian Titles Race Report

The 2011 Australian RC Laser championship was held on Saturday the 16th and Sunday the 17th of July 2011 at Lake Kawana, hosted by the Sunshine Coast Radio Yacht club. After a week of brilliant sunshine the Sunshine Coast managed to have a rain event on our chosen weekend. This caused a last minute change of venue to a sheltered spot a little to the North of the clubs usual sailing location. This proved to be a great choice and both days were sailed at the same location even though Sunday was a mainly fine day. The championship got underway, the “B” fleet sailing first with their B sails hoisted. The “A” fleet followed but after a few nosedives in the increasing wind, the C sails were used for the rest of the day as the wind held in strength from the South. Day 1 finished with 8 races completed for each fleet. The racing had been close and competitive and only a few points seperated the first four places at the end of racing. After a nice meal and a good nights sleep day 2 started with a nice breeze tending to the southwest. After moving the course slightly the racing resumed with the sailors opting for B sails from the start. Later in the day saw the breeze drop to provide perfect conditions for the A sails. The 2 fleets sailed 10 races each on Sunday with the final race deciding the placings of 2nd (Nigel Price SCRYC) and 3rd (Graham Brown Dobroyd NSW). Congratulations Scott Fleming (Waterways VIC) for outstanding, consistant sailing to retain the championship trophy he won in 2010. A big thanks to David Black and Gordon James and Ian McDonald for an outstanding job scoring and assisting in the running of the event and a special thankyou to Amanda and Rebecca for keeping us well fed. In summary, a terrific event sailed competitively and with friendliness, good humour and fair play all round. For more photos check the weblink below. Nigel Price President Sunshine Coast ryc.
