RC Laser Championships 2013

Get Your Entries in for the 2013 RC Laser National Championships

4There are just two weeks to go until entries close for the 2013 Australian RC Laser Championships being held at Lake Patawalonga, Adelaide on the weekend of 5th and 6th October.  This year’s event is heading towards being the biggest so
far. There are 21 confirmed RC Laser sailors,  with another promised and at least two possible late entries.

All the information you need to know about the event and how to enter is in the Notice of Race, which can be found on the ARYA’s website at http://www.radiosailing.org.au/2013arya/files/nor/RC_Laser_NoR_Final_Doc.pdf

The Entry Form can be found at http://www.radiosailing.org.au/2013arya/files/nor/RC_Laser_Entry_Form_Final.pdf

Information about the venue, local accommodation, weather statistics and the skipper’s list can be found on the website of the host club at http://www.thepat.saradioyachting.org.au/ . Unfortunately, we don’t have the luxury of a ramp to launch from so you will need to get your feet wet. Appropriate footwear is strongly recommended. Spring time weather in Adelaide can be quite changeable so check the long range forecast or better, bring some clothing for all conditions. If you haven’t entered already and want to be a part of it, enter now and avoid a late entry fee.

2013 Tasmanian RC Laser State Championship Report

By George Fish

A fleet of six RC Laser sailors faced the starter on Sunday 22nd Sept for the 2013 Tasmanian State Championships on a day that saw light winds and early morning drizzle.

By lunch the weather was fine but the A rigs prevailed all day. The last race, however, saw an increase in wind strength just after the start, catching the fleet with too much sail up and causing half the fleet to retire.

George Fish, last year’s state champion, won the event  and was closely followed by Geoff Martin in second and Chris Madizra gaining third place. Biggest improver over 12 months was Andy Hamilton who came in fourth.

The PRO, Paul Laverty, kept the races ticking over and in the end achieved fourteen completed.

Competitors seemed to enjoy the event with some penalties applied to most skippers throughout.
